I finally remembered to bring the camera to swim class!
Swimming has been big fun & mostly uneventful. Mostly. A couple of weeks ago, as class was ending, we had an issue. It went like this…
Me: Okay Esther, class is over. Time to get out of the pool.
Esther: I want to stay in the water forever.
Me: No Esther, your class is over. Time to get out. We will come back next week.
Esther: I WANT TO STAY IN FOR…EV…ER……!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
Me: Esther, you must let other kids have their turn. Time to get out now.
Me: Esther, swim class is for big girls. If you cannot be a big girl, you will not get to sw…
Esther: I AM A BIG GIRL!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
The wailing continued as she dried off, walked down the hall to the changing room, got dressed, & out to the car. The sound magnified by big empty concrete rooms. Sympathetic (slightly amused) stares from the other parents. Piper rolling her eyes & looking smug because she was not the one crying.
Last week, I talked to Esther before class. Reminded her that when class was over, she must get out of the pool & give others a turn at swimming. She promised she would. As class ended, she hopped right out, so happy & proud of herself for being such a big girl. Then she walked smack into the bleachers, with her head, that is.
The wailing continued as she dried off, walked down the hall to the changing room, got dressed, & out to the car. Poor dear.
Let’s hope our next swim class will be tear free!
